Hi! I’m Ming Yong, a teacher based in Singapore. I graduated from the National University of Singapore with a degree in Psychology, with a focus on education and learning. I specialise in Upper Primary and PSLE English, and I have been teaching for about 7 years.

I run my entire operation independently - handling everything from teaching and material design to curriculum development - so I can ensure the highest standards of quality, dedication, and commitment to my students. It’s a lot of work, but seeing them enjoy coming to class and improve in their grades makes it all worth it!

Over the years, I have helped many of my students achieve spectacular results in Upper Primary English and PSLE - all while having fun in my highly engaging and interactive classes!

About me

My Tuition Centre: Write with Wings

Running Write with Wings independently was a deliberate decision. I wanted to build a teaching environment where I could have direct control over the curriculum, the learning materials and the quality of every lesson. My core philosophy was simple: How can one expect others to learn if he himself does not fully understand what he's teaching?

That is why I am involved in every single stage of the process. Every worksheet, practice, composition and question my students use is meticulously developed and lovingly crafted by me.

This creates complete alignment between curriculum development and classroom teaching. There is no disconnect between the person who designs the materials and the person who teaches them. Every lesson is delivered with a clear understanding of its objectives, the concepts being reinforced and the skills students are expected to develop.

The results speak for themselves! My students have shown remarkable improvement in their English skills, examination scores and confidence. And best of all? They come to class every week with huge smiles on their faces, ready to learn and have fun!

Student engagement is a priority

At Write with Wings, I believe that fun, engagement and learning all go hand in hand. I mean, let's face it: children aren't normally bursting with enthusiasm at the thought of writing compos and learning grammar!

This is why I always blend educational activities and incentive systems into my classes. Children learn best when they're genuinely interested in what they're doing, excited to participate, and have visible goals to work towards.

For instance, when we learn composition skills in class, I usually frame it within interactive activities. In one class, students receive bottles of perfume to mix, provided they can also mix their descriptive elements in writing, such as feelings, thoughts, actions and dialogue. In another, they interact with an AI character who will hilariously comment on their writing, leading them to relentlessly refine their paragraphs to earn compliments from him.

A reward system that makes students eager to come to class

In my classes, students can earn a special classroom currency called Capybucks – real, physical notes that they absolutely love collecting!

Students earn Capybucks through their participation, effort, homework completion and other classroom achievements. They can then save up their earnings and exchange them for little gadgets, toys and art materials at my very own classroom shop!

It's always lovely to see them proudly counting their Capybucks, deciding what to save up for next and getting excited about their next visit to the shop.

Of course, the rewards are just a little extra motivation. The real goal is to encourage good learning habits, celebrate effort and make every lesson something students look forward to!
